You pass by the same place innumerable times and then one day its all changed. I don't know the story behind this small drama but I don't think you need to in order to be struck by it.
I sometimes get asked, invariably with a mixture of curiosity and judgment, why I would choose to render a scene like this. Implied in the question is why not present something more palatable, a pretty scene. But this is what makes me slow down and look, this is what incites my curiosity and interest, and I think in its own way it possesses a certain unconventional beauty.
