This is constructed in a kind of up and away manner; whereby the lower half is more immediate and present and the upper half starts to become distant. I like to think the top half is both more and less ephemeral than the bottom. It's also about light set against darkness. But the lights are of things that burn for differing lengths and with differing intensities-stars, sparks, flames, humans and insects.
Fire is something we are awed by, it possesses its own peculiar magnetism. Fire when it is tamed can induce in us a certain stillness, we gaze at it and it calms us. Fire casts us in a a half-light, like we are only partially there. I think when we are around a campfire we look and act differently, perhaps a litle other-worldly.
